Bringing Clients the Freshest in Home Furnishings

One of the significant benefits we offer our clients is our strong, direct relationships with over 125 leading home furnishings manufacturers and suppliers. These relationships are an integral part of our LIVV Home Collection™, which includes fine furniture, custom window treatments, wall and floor coverings, accessories, and lighting.

To strengthen these supplier relationships, we participate in the annual High Point International Home Furnishings Market in October. Typically, around 100 of our Decorating Den Interiors design professionals attend, meeting with many of our sources for high-quality and distinctive home furnishings.

What this means for our clients is that we are not just an unknown designer who occasionally interacts with these sources. We are part of a collective of approximately 250 interior design businesses from across North America, representing a significant source of revenue for our suppliers. We tour the Market in groups of about 25, and when we enter one of the High Point showrooms, we do so with impact. The special attention we receive directly benefits our clients as we gain valuable insights into what makes the products we offer truly special.

October High Point NC International Home Furnishings Market

Maintaining the Freshest in Home Furnishings

The High Point Market is the largest home furnishings industry trade show in the world, covering more than 11 million square feet and featuring about 2,000 exhibitors across approximately 180 buildings. Navigating this vast event can be daunting for small independent designers. However, our clients benefit from a significant advantage.

Our Director of Design and Head of Merchandising, Senior Vice President David Haseley, along with his team, works directly with senior executives from our supplier firms, often including the CEO, to ensure our time at the Market is as productive as possible. We receive efficient presentations on the latest products in home furnishings, textiles, construction, styles, sustainability, color trends, and more in interior décor.

Additionally, we visit manufacturing plants to witness first-hand the craftsmanship, attention to detail, and overall quality that characterize the products we offer to clients. This also allows us to meet employees, reinforcing our status as a major customer.

Even those who cannot attend the Market still benefit. Our designers are grouped by geographic region, where they meet frequently for camaraderie, continuing education, and updates from local supplier representatives. The first regional meeting following the Market will include an in-depth discussion of the latest trends.

Another benefit for our clients is that after each Market, David and our Merchandising Department conduct a seminar presentation on the new trends observed. Our designers can then use this presentation as a program for local organizations in their area.

Leadership

Our clients help us strengthen our relationships with suppliers by allowing us to serve as a valuable resource for them. Because we engage in a wide range of design projects across the company, we are often invited to participate in educational panel discussions at home furnishings showrooms in High Point.

For instance, this year, Universal Furniture featured our colleagues Laura Outland and Lynne Lawson from Columbia, Md., alongside Jennifer Ward-Woods and her sister Barbara Elliott from Stone Mountain, Ga., to discuss the topic “Designing for Different Generations.” Additionally, Gabby Luxury Furniture invited Krista Shugars from the Baltimore area to serve as a panelist for the discussion titled “Luxury is an Attitude: Building Insane Revenue with Everyday Clients.”

All five design professionals are recognized as Designers of the Year, an honor bestowed by interior design journalists who evaluate room makeovers in our annual International Dream Room competition.

We also have the opportunity to meet internationally acclaimed designers such as Thom Felicia, Candace Olson, Jaclyn Smith, Hilary Farr, and Libby Langdon, allowing us to gain valuable insights and ideas from them.

Ultimately, our goal is to give clients an edge when considering options for new room designs. We want our clients to feel confident that we are providing knowledgeable and up-to-date information about what constitutes quality and freshness in design.
