Washington Park Home – Foyer

Location: Denver

Designer Credits: Sandy Schuster

Project Overview:

The client wanted to enhance the front entry of their Victorian home, which lacked charm and a standout design element. The existing stencil on the staircase with rubber treads felt out of place and didn’t align with the new aesthetic the client envisioned. The goal was to create a more inviting entryway that better reflected the home’s Victorian character.

Sandy refreshed the space with a warm white paint to brighten the area and used Damask wallpaper to emphasize the Victorian charm and create a welcoming atmosphere. To further enhance the staircase, she added a coordinating stencil pattern to the risers, tying the design together seamlessly.

Since the entryway had limited natural light, a light-toned palette was chosen to keep the space feeling open. A large bookcase that overwhelmed the area was replaced with a small bench, softened with patterned and textured pillows for a touch of eclectic style. A carefully selected antique entry table complemented the space, while a classic artwork print by William-Adolphe Bouguereau, painted in 1890, paid homage to the home’s historic character. The result is a beautifully balanced and inviting Victorian-inspired entryway.
